New Year in Sochi: what to do in the southern resort?

The less time remains until the New Year, the sharper the question of where to celebrate it arises. This year’s New Year’s holiday will last 11 days, so we definitely do not recommend you to stay at home. And although most often travelers in winter are divided into two camps: Bali or Thailand, there are also those who prefer to stay in their homeland and not spend too much time on the road.

Among these destinations, we vote for sunny Sochi. It is an ideal holiday destination for those who always miss the sea and cannot imagine a holiday without mountains. Winter temperatures here rarely drop below 5°C, but there’s so much snow in the mountains that some New Year’s weather is sure to be in order. And during the January holidays there will be no less entertainment here than in Moscow. We talk about them in this material.

We’ve collected all the looks and codes on where to go and what to see in Sochi this New Year.

New Year’s Eve at Swissôtel Resort Sochi Kamelia

They know for sure that you will spend it the same way you celebrate the New Year in Sochi. Therefore, noisy parties are planned here until the morning. One of these is organized by Swissôtel Resort Kamelia. The evening program includes two events in different parts of the facility: in the ballroom and in the Kamelia Café restaurant. The headliners of the night are Pete Jason (former soloist of the band “Prime Minister”) and Ilya Zudin (soloist of the band “Dynamite”).

In the ballroom, the event will be held in a banquet format: guests will be invited to try dishes from the menu prepared by the hotel’s chef. The same names will also perform at the party at Kamelia Café. However, all meals will be served on the buffet line.

A special festive show awaits even younger guests at parties. Throughout New Year’s Eve, children in the ballroom and restaurant will be greeted with congratulations from Father Frost and Snow Maiden, as well as the entertainment program of the hotel team.

Walk in the Arboretum

Arboretum in Sochi is a cult place that you have definitely seen in Russian movies. Both in the Soviet “Ladies Invite Gentlemen” and in the modern “Cheburashka”. It is a green place, an oasis of peace right in the center of the city. Here you can walk looking at many plants and climb to the highest point of the park to reach the observation deck overlooking the whole city. You can reach here by walking from the main entrance or by cable car.

What would a holiday be without mountains in Sochi? And even if you’re not a skier or snowboarder, you’ll probably want to feel the Apres ski atmosphere at local resorts. Head to Rosa Khutor and take the cable car to the top to catch your breath after the December race. Then head downstairs to enjoy local food and drink at trendy Southern spots with stylish views. If you like winter sports, take a closer look at the mountain resorts “Krasnaya Polyana” and “Gazprom Polyana”. They are not as popular as Rosa Khutor, but the slopes here are no worse and the prices will pleasantly surprise you.
