This time, we decided not only to make a list, but also to tell all the good things happening in our industry in 2024 in a phenomenon format. Our film industry and our online cinema industry are trying to create even under difficult conditions. This is commendable and I want to talk about it.
Renting the movie “The Master and Margarita”
Once upon a time, Mikhail Lokshin’s long-term construction did not inspire confidence in the audience. However, the problem was not in the director, but in Bulgakov’s original work, which was quite difficult to film. But in reality it turned out to be a very capacious and beautiful film, in which Zhenya Tsyganov and Yulia Snigir fit perfectly. “The Master and Margarita” turned out to be a truly high-quality Russian blockbuster, in which the budgets were spent not only elsewhere, but also on the production of the film.
Cameos of bloggers in the movie “Major Thunder: The Game”
We were surprised to see bloggers appear in the second installment of the Major Thunder series. Katya Klep and Zhenya Bedkomedian made brief appearances in the film in their classic YouTube roles and became part of the plot of the sequel. What does this mean? Yes, bloggers are becoming more and more important players in absolutely all markets every year, and this is a good thing. The more people, the more opinions about the same thing and the more options.
Film festivals – 2024
This year, festivals featuring films and TV series attracted much more attention from both the media and ordinary audiences. The “Pilot” TV series festival or “Mayak” film festival surprised us with big premieres this year. As you can see, the premiere of the movie “Anora” took place at the “Mayak” film festival. And telegram writers constantly highlighted high-quality projects, of which there are really many. This is a good trend; shows like these help discover new talent that our industry really needs.
“He’s So Cool” Series
The Kion online cinema series did not become popular with our viewers, but it managed to present us with the excellent acting work of Lev Zulkarnaev (in my opinion, the best male role of 2024 among this series) and became a good social commentary, where the main idea is that we all need a friend . And it doesn’t matter whether you are a person with special needs or not, you should meet someone by what they are inside, not by their clothes.
“Anora” is a movie that opens closed doors
Sean Baker’s film is now one of the most beloved films of awards season and an obvious candidate for many Oscar statuettes. That’s the point, as the movie is great, but it’s primarily a personal enjoyment for you and me. The joy of Mark Eidelstein, Dasha Ekamasova, Alexey Serebryakov. “Anora” is a great movie that made a splash all over the world. Our talented artists also take part. It’s not for nothing that Mark Eidelstein was invited to play the leading male role in the second season of the Amazon series “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.”
Premiere of the TV series “Crime and Punishment”
Vladimir Mirzoev’s series became the most experimental and controversial broadcast of the year. The series based on Dostoevsky’s classics turned out to be too abstract, without a main plot. This is probably what alienates viewers who expect specific details rather than surrealism. For this reason, the viewing score is very low and the number of views is much lower after the first episodes. And if “The Master and Margarita” captivated the audience with its beauty and scale, “Crime and Punishment” did not achieve even half of it.
“Piece” – main event of 2024
While the Okko online cinema series may not seem particularly special, it quickly captured audiences’ attention upon release and became one of the most popular new products on the service this year. It’s such a dark and viscous business, such a dark matter, it’s impossible to tear yourself away from it. Realistic storytelling, decent acting and most importantly a very mysterious and interesting script.
Fairy tales continue
The trend of making feature films based on fairy tales has not disappeared and continues to gain a foothold in the industry, just like the stories from the 90s that our online cinemas love so much. As a result, we have before us the release of Igor Voloshin’s film “The Wizard of the Emerald City”. Plus now there is a movie about brownie Kuzya in our cinemas. We’ve discussed before where this is all going. We will not repeat ourselves.
Vanya Sosnin is still the best-natured and most sincere person in our film industry
Even in her short films, Vanya proves that she has a big heart and a pure soul. The TV series “South” and the movie “Alien”, released this year, further strengthened this idea. Sosnin is still ready to share kindness, talk about love and understanding, and we are grateful to him for that. We all need these issues in such difficult times.
“The Last Ronin”
Editor and former music video director Max Shishkin’s debut feature film is finally getting a wide release in Russia. Max started editing all kinds of great videos based on movies, then managed to work with musicians of various calibers, and now he has a movie coming out starring Yura Kolokolnikov, Diana Enakaeva, Daniil Vorobyov and Tikhon Zhiznevsky.
