Two important factors play a role in the Oscar race: box office revenues and critical reviews. For the sake of the coveted statuette, film companies invest millions in advertising campaigns to promote the film. If a film has no chance of winning the main prize, producers will focus on costume design, sound effects, etc. They try to promote the film in technical categories. And such a nomination or award at the Oscars can even financially save an unsuccessful film or at least maintain the audience’s interest in it. While it’s too early to make predictions, not only the contenders are known, but also preliminary data on who might win in the Best Picture category at the 97th Academy Awards.

Variety has released the list of 2025 Oscar nominees. The top five were: “Five of September”, “Conclave”, “Emilia Perez”, “Anora”, “Brutalist”. A similar page was published by The Hollywood Reporter.
In the IMDb rankings, “Anora” also continues to be in the top five after “Dune: Part Two”, “Superman: The Christopher Reeve Story” and “Wild Robot”.
“Anora” is at the top of the rankings on the Gold Derby website. Likewise, the movie ranks high in Entertainment Weekly ratings.
The Wrap ranked Anora second on the list, after Emilia Perez.
Let’s remember that Sean Baker’s film Anora won the Palme d’Or, the grand prize at Cannes this year. The film tells the story of the marriage of the Russian oligarch’s son Ivan to Anora, an American stripper, but their parents are ready to do anything to turn their marriage upside down. The main roles were played by: Mark Eidelstein, Mikey Madison, Yura Borisov, Alexander Serebryakov, Daria Yekamasova, Vache Tovmasyan and Karen Karagulyan.
