Dutch sociology professor Jeroen Navijn explained the formula for an ideal holiday. The scientist and his assistants worked in various travel agencies for 19 days. They asked customers to fill out a questionnaire in which they had to describe their preferences.

Analyzing the responses, the scientist found three common problems for every traveler:
- Severe mood swings
- The most painful days are the first and the last
- Longer vacations do not increase feelings of happiness.
The professor found a way to solve them. The scientist suggested shortening the “tail” of the vacation, that is, not lasting the whole month. According to him, the average tourist will have enough money to spend a week or two on vacation. As the expert noted, practice shows that during the rest of the weekend people suffer from idleness and sadness. APA PsycNet reports that a person is sure to enjoy in any case and will have less time for sadness and regret.
