According to Deadline, director Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, The Fall of the House of Usher) will be working on a new movie based on The Exorcist. The film will be a “completely new take” on William Friedkin’s 1973 film.

The film will be released by Blumhouse Studios. In July 2021, it purchased the franchise rights from Morgan Creek for $400 million. By the way, the last movie of the series was released last year under the Blumhouse brand. It was called “Exorcist: Believer”. The project was directed by David Gordon Green. He later turned down work on the next installment of the series.
Flanagan replaced him. The director, known for his works in the horror genre, will write and direct the script of the film, which will tell a brand new story. There will be no continuation of the events of Green’s film.
The director said he considered it an honor to work on a project from the “Exorcist” series. According to him, this film is one of the reasons why he became a director. “I’m honored to have the opportunity to try something fresh, bold and scary in this universe,” the filmmaker said.
