How do you remove condensation on the windshield? Kayla Jackson on TikTok

A young woman sparked a heated debate online after she revealed she never knew whether to use hot or cold air to defog her windshield.

Melbourne woman Kayla Jackson posted a video on TikTok trying to fix the problem, but hours after the fierce discussion she was more confused than ever.

More than 1.2 million people watched the video, which received more than 100,000 likes, but only a thousand of them dared to share their opinion.

Melbourne woman Kayla Jackson posted a video on TikTok trying to fix the problem, but hours later she said the fierce discussion confused her more than ever.

Some people swear that using cold air is the best method.

“Always cool air to release faster so you can slowly increase the heat, but make sure there’s still air blowing through the windshield,” one woman said.

But many did not agree

”Use the defrost setting, turn on the heating and press the air conditioner button. I don’t know why it works, but it does.’

Others had various and less useful options.

It looks like Kayla isn't the only one confused about this.

with the acceptance of others

It seems like Kayla isn’t the only one confused about this – others admit they’ve tried everything every time.

“I just rub it with my hand,” one man said.

Although some say they feel hot and cold.

“I press all the buttons until something works,” one woman said.

“Same: I’ll shoot in any mode until it’s fixed,” said another.

As others admit, they panicked when the windows fog up.

“If it doesn’t work I will stop and open all windows,” he wrote.

“I didn’t have to deal with anything, my panic when it started to get foggy,” one mother wrote.

But some have found that it doesn’t matter what temperature it’s set to as long as the A/C is on and the air is coming from outside the car.

‘It does not matter! Make sure the A/C is on and the defrost button is on and set it to your desired temperature,” one man said.

Although others have said it “depends on the day”.

“Your windshield needs to match the outside temperature to defog,” one woman said.

How do you clean your fogged windows?

AIR CONDITIONING

If your windows are fogging up, try leaving the air conditioner at a comfortable temperature with the heater.

You’ll be surprised how quickly the fog clears. It’s also a good idea to turn off the recirculation and get some fresh air whenever possible when using the air conditioner.

Oddly enough, using your car’s defogging feature is an often overlooked way to defog your windshield.

In most modern cars, the defroster turns on the air conditioner and fan to force dry, heated air onto the windshield.

USE OF DEFROST

In addition to the windshield defroster, your vehicle is also equipped with a heated rear window. To protect the glass from condensation, the defroster uses an electrical element to heat the glass just enough to evaporate any accumulated moisture. This is a system that works as efficiently as your windshield defroster.

KEEP CLEAN

Oil, dust and other contaminants that accumulate on windows provide more surface area to hold onto water vapor. A good windshield polish is the best way to clean the windshield and reduce the effects of condensation.

Clean glass reduces the area these tiny droplets like, meaning it takes longer for the car window to fog up initially and faster to clean the glass with the above methods when it’s foggy.
