Where to spend May holidays in 2024

Good news for those who no longer export: May is coming. The last month of spring at school and university seemed terrible – after all, we had exams, tests and the like ahead of us. When you grow up, you are overwhelmed at work every day, no matter the month. But having a long weekend brings joy to some.

May holidays are a breath of fresh air for those who need to breathe and spend a few days with their loved ones. And there is no better option than a spontaneous trip.

We tell you where you can escape for a few days without worrying about visas and foreign currency.

Nizhny Novgorod

Nizhny Novgorod is the capital of beautiful sunsets, long walks and delicious restaurants. Therefore, if you are not ready to go somewhere far, go there by train. Four hours – and you are in one of the most beautiful historical cities! You’re sure to find something to do here. At least in Nizhny, as in Moscow, there is everything. Even the races in Power of the Wind.

Those who love excursions should pay attention to walking tours throughout the city. Believe me, Nizhny Novgorod is full of interesting places. If you’re someone who cares about a special atmosphere, head to the Minister of Breakfast restaurant and in the evening head to the Copper Pipes bar. Sochi

If you miss the gym all year long, you can head to Sochi and start the swimming season. If sports are not your thing, don’t worry and come to the southern city to experience the White Nights and taste the most delicious khinkali in Russia. In general, Sochi is a universal city for both those who love the sea and those who prefer the mountains. When you get tired of the crowds, you can always go to Krasnaya Polyana. By the way, going to the bath has a different pleasure. Just imagine: fresh air, hill views and a jacuzzi. Therefore, you can endure steaming with a broom.

Well, you can always come to the port area when you want endless summer and warmth. There are popular restaurants and beach clubs. And life in general is more fun.

Kaliningrad

Over the past few years, the Kaliningrad region has suddenly become one of the top tourist destinations, almost instantly gaining its own famous city. Zelenogradsk has earned the title of cat capital of Russia; In fact, the city has created a special and unique place in the world of a cat chef who cares about furry cats. Svetlogorsk became famous for its picturesque promenade, old German villas with bright orange tiles and retrofunicular railway with canary cabins. And Kaliningrad has become a must-see, thanks to the Cathedral on Kant Island, which has the largest organ in Russia, and the Khomlin family, magnificent creatures who practice amber art.

We cannot help but say this about the Curonian Spit. If you haven’t seen it, consider that you haven’t been to the Kaliningrad region. The most convenient way to get here is from Zelenogradsk, there are direct buses from Zelenogradsk. However, to overcome this, it is better to rent a car.

Dagestan

If you have been wanting to see Dagestan for a long time but constantly postpone it until later, this moment has finally come. In recent years, Makhachkala has become the main attraction for Moscow tourists. And who would have thought that videos with these incredible views would appear in your feeds every now and then? Moreover, May is the ideal time to spend the whole day in the mountains.

By the way, Dagestan is now known for its delicious local cuisine. The capital of the republic is developing, albeit slowly. Now you can find both authentic showrooms and stylish cafes in the city. Among other things, there is a real cult of coffee here and there are a lot of specialty coffee shops at every opportunity. Popular ones include “1930” on Oskar Street and V60, “Luch” on the central square.

Karelia

Karelia is suitable for those who want to leave the city for all holidays. You can get there by plane in just an hour and a half. And the cost of tickets during the holiday season is about 10 thousand rubles for a round-trip flight. Head to Kivach to see one of the largest waterfalls in Europe. This place is so loved by tourists that getting there will not be a big problem. Buses to the waterfalls run regularly, but be aware that you’ll have to jostle around the observation deck.

There shouldn’t be any problems with housing in Karelia either. You can always stay in a guesthouse on the lakeshore or in a hotel, for example, in one of the hotels of the Tochka na Karte chain. They are located in Priozersk and Sortavala.
