Renowned Australian scientist Dr Karl Kruszelnicki shocked his fans after claiming that almond milk is not as nutritious compared to alternatives.

Dr. Karl, 73, appeared on Triple J’s podcast with Lachie Pringle and noted that both regular milk and soy milk and even peanut milk contain much more nutrients than almond milk.

“Almonds are packed with nutrients, and you’d think almond milk would be fine, but somehow they managed to get all the nutrients from it,” she said.

Dr. Karl added that the end result was essentially “very expensive water”, describing it as “the worst”.

Dr. Sharing his knowledge on Twitter, Karl wrote: “It amazes me how the producers of almond milk have managed to lose all the good nutrients of almonds and sell something so much like water.

There is a wide variety of non-dairy milks available. Almond milk has one of the lowest nutritional values, while soy milk has a much better nutritional score.’

In recent years, supermarket dairy aisles have exploded with a variety of dairy and plant-based milk options for those with lactose allergies.

Almond milk is a delicious, low-calorie, dairy-free option made by mixing almonds in water and then straining to remove the liquid from the solids.

According to Healthline, 240 ml of almond milk contains only 39 calories, 3 g fat and only 1 g protein, while soy milk contains 100 calories and 7 g protein and 4 g fat.

But it’s important to note that some brands of almond milk may contain added sugar.

Dr. “Regular milk and soy milk contain a lot of nutrients, peanut milk contains a lot of nutrients, almond milk is the worst,” said Karl.

While some Twitter users were equally shocked by the allegations, others said they should drink almond milk as it was “the only option”.

“We only have plant-based products like almond milk for those of us who can’t tolerate dairy,” one wrote.

Another adds that plant milk has low nutritional value due to its low content of almonds.
