1. Let your opponent have a different opinion
Any conflict has a beginning, that is, a stumbling block and zero mileage, which causes disagreement on one or both sides at the same time. Here it is important to understand how important it is for you to defend your position on a controversial issue and to prove your claim. If we are talking about personal preferences, educational methods or interests, it is better to immediately adjust yourself to the fact that the opinion of the interlocutor may be completely different from yours. Let others have a different opinion and treat it with understanding and respect. The attitude itself will allow you not to get involved in an argument for the sake of proving your case.
2. Offer a compromise
As soon as a solution that fits both is chosen, the conflict subsides. It is important to be able to compromise and not only insist on your own opinion and decision, but also hear what the opponent wants to convey. Thus, the positions of both are balanced and the need for conflict is eliminated.
3. Take a break
Often times, conflicts prolong and gain a degree when disagreements go further and there is no longer the opportunity and desire to stop. One of the most effective ways to prevent arguments is to stop talking until the feelings have subsided. Experience shows that this is a tactic that works. But the difficulty lies in the fact that it is necessary to stop the dialogue only for a while. It will still be necessary to return to the discussion and resolve the contentious issue, but in a calmer state.
4. Be smart
A kind word always disarms. It is impossible to answer the good with contradictions for a long time, one way or another, the aggression gradually disappears. If you are not in the mood for confrontation, and the interlocutor wants to prove the opposite, avoid reckoning: humor, translation of the plot, support for the opponent, mitigation of the conflict.
5. Agree with your partner
Look at the controversial issue not only from your side, but also from the side of the interlocutor. Taking into account the arguments of the other party and adjusting your own position is a very effective and competent way to resolve (and avoid) any conflict.

Often a harmless discussion turns into a real one. At the same time, it is not so important for us to defend our position anymore, we just get angry and can’t stop. The conflict gains an incomparable dimension with the reason of the forgotten conflict at this point. In order not to take the dispute to extremes, it is important to consider the following.
- Ask yourself how important it is for you to stand up for your opinion on this particular issue. Perhaps he is so neutral and insignificant that it is not worth risking his own mood and communication with another person for his own sake.
- Make sure internally that you are right. This attitude usually prevents conflict from arising. The interlocutor can present arguments, prove his opinion, and you are internally unshakable.
- Evaluate whether the righteousness of the friendship is worth it. Sometimes it’s better to agree with someone else’s opinion than to break bridges and lose contact with one person forever.
