The trend of growing greens on the window sill and balcony is gaining momentum, but the first, ahem, sprouts have returned in times of self-isolation.
By 2022 we already have stores selling seeds, trendy watering cans, self-watering systems, and seedling bloggers-ambassadors of all kinds. In general, a complete set so that your window sill is not only useful, but also photogenic.
And yet, if you’re not adding crunchy and healthy sprouts to your meal, and you’re adding dried mint instead of fresh leaves to your tea, try doing something you didn’t have time to do in May – start a small garden, even at home.
Why do I need it?
Firstly, microgreens are useful, which is confirmed by the studies of nutritionists. Shoots contain a lot of magnesium, iron, vitamins, zinc and other minerals. Secondly, growing a micro-garden with your own hands and watching the green shoots calms you down, helps to be distracted by a simple, general task that will bring fairly quick and visible results.
Where to start?

A little theory. Almost all microgreens are quite unpretentious, so you do not need to learn botany and tie the shoots only at an angle of 45 degrees, on the west side of the apartment and strictly at five in the morning. We joke, but there is a truth in this – everything is easy with microgreens, the main thing is to have a balcony or window sill on the sunny side and a drop of enthusiasm.
What will be needed?
Tray or rectangular container
spray
Actually, the seeds
Earthen/cotton/paper towels
How to grow microgreens?
If you do not want to mess with the ground, the seeds can be placed in cotton wool or towels. In the initial stages, the seeds literally take everything they need from themselves, so they just need moisture.
So put cotton/soil/paper in the tray and spray plenty of water on it. Sprinkle the seeds on top. Do not be afraid to overdo it – the more there are, the thicker the “cover” of sprouted microgreens. Spray the seeds again, cover with cling film and wait. As soon as the first shoots appear, the film should be removed, and the seeds and seedlings should be actively moistened with a spray bottle three times a day. About 10 more days and the harvest can be harvested. Keep in mind that since microgreens no longer sprout, your enclosures should begin to form leaves.
What to grow?

Imagine though microgreens are small, they usually have a pretty bright flavor. Don’t believe? Remember the pea sprouts loved by all restaurants – their tart and at the same time grassy taste is hard to recognize. Therefore, from a very young age, give preference to such plants that have a bright “individuality”. Basil, peas, beets, tarragon, watercress, dill, parsley, more familiar to us – all these seeds can be bought literally in any online market even today.
Where is it added?
Literally everywhere! Soup, salad, omelet, sandwich, pasta – microgreens are all over the place. The same peas and gnaw very nice. Good and tasty harvest to you!
