When it comes to air quality, Lexus not only pays attention to car emissions, but also to the cleanest possible environment in its vehicles. To maintain a clean and healthy environment in the passenger compartment and protect the well-being of all occupantsLexus introduces the next generation of the nanoe system: nanoe X. Made by Panasonic, this technology is invisible to the human eye, but is highly effective at suppressing potentially harmful and unpleasant particles.
The scientific principle is simple: water molecules with microscopic hydroxyl radicals are released into the air. These can counteract viruses, bacteria, pollen and other allergens and prevent the spread of fungi. They can also reduce bad odors and stop the evaporation of moisture, resulting in a more hydrated skin and coat.
The next generation of nanoe X technology is first included in the executive sedan Lexus ES in 2021. It is also now available on the new UX, next-generation RX and new RZ, as part of Lexus’ Lexus Climate Concierge system. Other models will be added in 2023. The effectiveness of the nanoe X system has been proven by independent academic institutions and agencies around the world2. For example, laboratory research has shown that it can inhibit more than 99% of viruses and bacteria in one hour and achieve a reduction of 1.8 in odor intensity.
So the new nanoe X technology is a big step up from the original nanoe X system previously used in several Lexus vehicles. A much greater effect has now been achieved thanks to a ten-fold increase in the number of hydroxyl radical particles emitted: from 480 billion per second to 4.8 trillion.
Hydroxyl radicals, abundant in nature, are now being used to improve air quality in enclosed spaces such as vehicles, offices or public areas. Once emitted, they react with certain environmental elements. Through a natural process, they can counteract the increase of polluting particles by dissolving them and neutralizing their adverse effects. These include hazardous substances in PM2.5 particles.
The benefits of this advanced air purification technology can be enjoyed during all car journeys, but are especially valuable when driving through heavily polluted urban areas. The effects are also more easily appreciated when several passengers are transported every day.
