The 26-year-old climbed onto the roof of the medical facility and remained there for two hours watching patients and visitors enter and leave the building. Witnesses observed him standing on top of the structure for nearly an hour while waving an object that looked like a long knife or sickle. Four police cars and a fire crew were dispatched to the scene to detain him.

Court hearing and health board statement

Gillespie did not explain his actions when he appeared in court. He pleaded guilty to disrupting hospital operations and received a £200 fine. Prosecutors also held him accountable for several prior incidents involving the theft of cat food and grocery items from local stores.

A representative for the local health board said hospitals maintain a zero-tolerance policy against all forms of aggression and vandalism.

Metro also reported a separate case in the United States where a night-shift nurse claimed she froze in place after spotting a dark figure in black clothing, measuring about two meters tall, standing next to a dying patient's bed.
