EXCLUSIVE: Perfectman Pictures, the production company founded by creator, showrunner and producer Alexi Hawley, is expanding with the hiring of Rachel Abarbanell as senior vice president and a new project in development at ABC.
Hawley’s latest series is an untitled legal drama from Natalie Callaghan – the fourth child in the former TV powerhouse’s overall deal with eOne. It was written by Callaghan, a senior editor on Hawley’s beloved ABC cop show The beginner, with Nathan Fillion. Hawley produced by Perfectman Pictures.
In her new role with the company, Abarbanell will identify new projects and develop comedy, drama and limited series for broadcast, cable and streaming platforms. She was previously vice president of development for Ellen DeGeneres’ production company, A Very Good Production. She produced the comedy during her six years there Apart together also for ABC Ellen’s next great designer and Tig Notaro: Signed for HBO Max, also co-producer of the feature film Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase for Warner Bros.
Prior to AVGP, Abarbanell spent 10 years at Lynda Obst Productions, where she eventually moved into executive production and served as associate producer on the feature film. The invention of lying Co-written, co-directed and starring Ricky Gervais. During this time she was also an executive in famous film and television projects such as Interstellar, helix, Good Girl Rebellion and The hot zoneamongst other things.
Known for writing drama based on true interests and circumstances, Hawley is the creator, writer and showrunner behind three current drama series: ABCs The beginner, for which he also directed the season 4 finale; its popular spin-off series The newcomer: federal agencies, captioned by Niecy Nash-Betts; and the Netflix spy drama the recruit starring Noah Centineo, which hits the platform on Friday, December 16. He previously served as executive producer and co-showrunner lock and The nextalso create location for ABC.
