In terms of hygiene and beauty there is little that is innate, but above all there is much that is acquired. Not everyone comes out of their rose or kale knowing how to apply conditioner! Furthermore, it is not obvious for Mr. and Mrs. Lambda that it is better to rinse his micellar water… (promise, we will tell you about it soon)
All daily gestures are affected, even the most basic ones, such as dry your hair with a towel. In fact, if wanting to get as much water out of your lengths as possible before styling them or letting them air dry is a good idea, using a normal towel to do it is less recommended! Come on, we’ll explain everything to you.
The towel, a “no-no” to dry your hair
In a magazine interview InStylecelebrity hairstylist Mark Townsend explains:
” Classic bath towels are made from small cotton rings. They are so absorbent because they catch the hair in between them and the cotton absorbs all the moisture.
Sounds great like that, but really, that rips the hair cuticle : we end up with tangled hair full of knots. »
So what do we do? Should you stop drying your head so as not to damage your lengths? Not really, because despite appearances, water and hair do not mix.
Britta Cox, founder of the Aquis brand, enlightens us to Byrdie magazine:
” Hair is made up of keratin held together by hydrogen bonds. These bonds have an affinity for water and if the inside of the hair stays too wet for too long, it changes its chemical structure. The hair then becomes limp and lengthens, sometimes up to 30%. At best it gives frizz, at worst it breaks. »
To remove all the humidity from your hair without damaging it, it would therefore be necessary to act quickly, and without rubbing. But with what?
The microfibre towel, the solution for drying hair without damaging it
To keep showing healthy hair for a long time, replace your usual bath towel with a microfiber towel.
Made from synthetic fibers finer than silk (mostly a blend of polyester and nylon), this material allows you to dry your hair without creating friction or damaging the cuticles. The water flowing over the lengths and the humidity are directly absorbed by the hundreds of microscopic filaments that make up the towel. Not bad right?
In order to take advantage of all the benefits of the microfiber hair towel, Brita gives some tips for use:
” After your shower, instead of scrubbing your hair, gently wring out the water with a microfiber towel. Then wrap your hair and let the towel absorb excess water for ten to fifteen minutes depending on your hair type. Fine hair will take less time while thick or curly hair will take longer. »
And the good news is that there is something for everyone! Classic microfiber towel for long or short hair, turban, hat, sober or leopard look… There is no shortage of models.
Once the product has been used, simply hang it up and let it air dry, as you would a classic towel. And go to the car! In a delicate cycle, with lace panties and silk blouses. Yes, microfiber is chic.
