Emancipation is coming to Apple TV+ soon, nine months after the Oscar-slapping episode.

Will Smith’s career is slowly recovering after the actor slapped Chris Rock onstage at the Oscars last March. Emancipation marks his return to the screens. While the promotion of the film is in full swing just days before its release on Apple TV+, Will Smith continues to do so keep a low profile.

The actor fears penalizing the film crew

In a filmed interview with fox5the actor addressed the public who no longer want to see his films after his violent act: “I fully understand that we are not ready. I would absolutely respect that and give their space to people who don’t feel ready. »

Will Smith explained that what mattered most to him was not affect the work of the rest of the team fromEmancipationa film by Antoine Fuqua that tells the story of a man who escaped slavery.

” My biggest concern is my team. Anthony [Fuqua, le réalisateur] and the film crew made, in my opinion, the best work of their career and I really hope my actions don’t hurt them.

At this point, that’s what I’m working towards. I hope the power of film and its current resonance, will encourage people to go see it and recognize the incredible talent of the people who worked on this project. »

The release of Emancipation has been delayed to May

The team ofEmancipation he had already had to be patient afterwards the film’s release was postponed. While it was supposed to be available on Apple TV+ from May (just under two months after the slap episode), the historical feature film will finally be released in theaters on December 9th in US theaters and beyond the international platform.

As a reminder, Will Smith shocked the world by punching comedian Chris Rock in the face after mocking his wife’s alopecia Jada Pinkett Smith.

Later that evening, the 54-year-old actor won the Best Actor Oscar for his role in The Williams method and took the opportunity to apologise. Then he had been banned from the Oscars for ten years.
