Brazilian comic book author Black Silence accuses Netflix of plagiarizing her work from the 1899 series… and her arguments are troubling.

Instead 1899 leaps to the top of the ranking of the most watched series at this moment a shadow has arrived on the platform to darken the picture of this great success. A Brazilian author accuses the series of being “identical” to his comic.

On Twitter, Mary Cagnin posted a particularly uplifting thread. The author claims to be “in shock” after finding out the striking similarities between the new hit Netflix series and his comic Black silencereleased in 2016.

And the least we can say is this the arguments put forward by the author raise questions. The latter has published numerous images taken from his book, comparing them to those of the Netflix series:

A meeting at a European fair

According to the author, if her comic landed on Netflix, it was because she had the opportunity to present it to international book fair in 2017. This event, which Cagnin particularly qualifies “influential”, took place in Sweden. The author had presented his work there and distributed many copies of the latter, as well as a English translation.

Gold, side scriptthe commonalities between the 2016 comic and the Netflix series released in 2022 do not they are no less surprising :

As a reminder, the Netflix series (like the comic, six years earlier) relates the mysterious circumstances of the journey of a boat of European immigrants en route to New York, and seeing a nightmarish riddle.
