Elizabeth Debicki, who plays Princess Diana in the fifth season of Netflix’s The Crown, shared which of the many iconic royal outfits she’s most afraid to wear – and of course, this is the fan-favourite.
“We all felt responsible for the ‘revenge dress’ because that’s what everyone wanted to see,” Debicki told E privately! news. “This is an incredibly important moment in fashion history. This dress symbolizes so many things because it is so bold and beautiful but also so strongly connected with our understanding of what is going on in this person’s life. So I think his duality was really strong and we felt like we really had to do it properly.”

Debicki explained that she wasn’t the only one feeling the pressure, but that the people in charge of the costumes also felt the responsibility to recreate the same Christina Stambolian dress as accurately as possible. Diana’s image inspired the creation of something like the “revenge dress” because she wore it that same evening when the world became aware of her husband Charles’ infidelities.
“As for me, I just came to rehearsal and put on the dress. I think the people in charge of the costumes were really on target and there were many, many hours. [работы]. for hours”.

Debicki explained that all of this preparation led to a particularly memorable set day at the Serpentine Gallery in Kensington Gardens, where Diana wore the dress in 1994.
“This is a powerful dress,” the actress explained. “It’s also a totally unique dress – the build, the shape, the look – and so I’ll definitely never forget that day on set. We shot it where it actually happened, so there were some deep layers going on back then.”
