British travel presenter Jonnie Irwin, known for UK daytime programmes A place in the Sun and escape to the countryrevealed that he has terminal cancer.
In an interview with the British magazine Hello! Irwin explained that he has lung cancer that has spread to his brain and doesn’t know how much time he has left. He only suspected a problem after noticing his vision was blurry during filming in 2020.
“Within a week of flying back from filming, I had six months to live,” he said. “I had to go home and tell my wife, who takes care of our babies, that she was quite alone. It was devastating. I could only apologize to her. I felt so responsible.”
He said he hopes by making his diagnosis public he will encourage others to make the most of their lives.
Irwin, 48, plans to continue working as much as possible with a “live with cancer, don’t die” attitude.
The presenter worked on Channel 4’s long-running Property format A place in the Sun since 2004 and has episodes of escape to the countrythe BBC’s daily format.
