After the Halloween party was over and with the wishlist ready for the huge discounts of the 11/11 ‘Singles Days’, many of us looked further afield and one of the most beloved discount parties keeps reverberating in our heads: on Black Friday. The popular ‘Black Friday’ is just around the corner and If you are one of those looking for this piece of desire or want to advance your Christmas shopping, at more affordable prices, this date is for you. Although they are not always fully known. As surprising as it may seem, there are still Spaniards who have never bought on Black Friday. This is estimated in numbers “One in 10 consumers has never benefited from the biggest sales campaign of the year,” according to Emma-The Sleep Company research.
Of course, compared to the one in ten, there are many who do know and invest in this stream of sales. In reality, “59% of Spaniards plan their purchases for Black Friday”, although “more than half (55%) do not set a budget limit, which generally leads to unnecessary purchases (42% of consumers regret Black Friday purchases, with electronics is the most regretted purchase)”. A list of alarming numbers that makes us think: do we really know what to buy? Or, at least, how do you shop this Black Friday? The truth is that no. Unfortunately, many of us, if not almost all of us, have we tend to fall for bargains or bargains or some other whim that ends up being relegated to the bottom of the closet.
And what is usually most in demand in these days of November discounts? In addition to fashion, beauty and electronics products, household appliances also stand out (the most consumed products are household appliances, followed by mattresses – chosen by 49% of respondents – and finally decorative items). An unbridled consumption that we are trying to eradicate and for which we have established five golden rules together with Emma-The Sleep Company to maximize savings on Black Friday and buy what we really need.
58% of Black Friday purchases are impulse purchases. To avoid this, write down what you really need, think about what you’re missing, and whether you’d buy the item if Black Friday didn’t happen. Be sure to ask yourself: How will my life improve? For how much time? Who benefits? While Black Friday is known for its discounts, data from 2021 shows how “the amount spent per customer actually increases during this period, as people buy more products per order”.
Calculate the available budget and set a limit on what you can spend. It will help you prioritize your choices and prevent Black Friday from becoming a time for excessive spending. If an unnecessary purchase occurs, ask yourself the same questions as in the previous point.
To prevent impulse purchases in the store (The crowds can drain your patience and ability to shop rationally, and it’s also harder to compare prices), Emma recommends that you shop online on Black Friday. For this year, it is expected that 87% of Spaniards will make their purchases online because of the comfort and practicality it brings.
Black Friday puts artificial pressure on limited time for shopping, but avoids unnecessary and hasty decisions. Keep in mind that most brands have the same discounts for much longer, including the weeks before and after. Black Friday is when the biggest spike occurs, followed closely by the following Sunday, with purchases more than double the average for the remainder of the discount period. The most popular time to place orders is between 8pm and 9pm and the least popular is between 2am and 4am. Think it through, give yourself time to evaluate the circumstances and buy when you are confident in your decision.
The main categories of products purchased around the world during Black Friday are clothing and footwear, electronics, cosmetics and perfumes, home appliances, children’s products and books, most of which are non-essential and ephemeral products. For this Black Friday, think about buying a product with a longer shelf life, something that positively affects your life for as long as possible. This makes it easier to think of Black Friday as a time to save, not spend.
