Deprived of access to toilets and a victim of racism, a former housekeeper of Jeff Bezos files a complaint

A lawsuit against billionaire Jeff Bezos was filed by a former employee. It indicates racist behavior towards many other employees, but also working conditions that jeopardize their safety.

Several polls had already shown the deplorable and dangerous working conditions of Amazon employees, in the United States, but of course also in France.

But Jeff Bezos also mistreated people who takes care of his home, according to a complaint filed in the United States by a housekeeper. Mercedes Wedaa accuses the Amazon boss of subjecting her employees to working conditions dangerous and unhealthy.

The lawsuits filed by Mercedes Wedaa also evoke racist discrimination against personnel of Hispanic origin. Also, one of the people in charge of management would have been “Aggressive and abusive” as for Mercedes Wedaa, who would have been “mocked and ridiculed”.

The “not to be noticed” instruction

Mercedes Wedaa was hired in 2019 as a home coordinator at one of the billionaire’s properties. You claim that you have been instructed to do so “Working for a family without getting noticed”. The complaint also speaks of working days from 10 to 14 hours.

The complaint details the lack of accessible toilets, forcing cleaners to use subterfuges to simply take a break and go to the bathroom: “For 18 months, in order to use the toilets, the complainant and the other cleaners were forced to go through the laundry window to exit, and then run on the path that runs alongside the technical room, to cross and exit, go down to the toilets. They were used by men and women, for example, field workers. “

This would not have been without consequences for their health since, again according to the complaint, the employees have regularly developed urinary tract infections. It’s hard not to think about the revelations about the working conditions of employees who work in Amazon’s warehouses, forced to urinate in their own place in the bottle, because they are deprived of a break even for five minutes.

Mercedes Weeda’s allegations are challenged by Jeff Bezos’ lawyers.
