Danish Queen Margrethe has apologized to her family members for the consequences of her grandchildren’s decision to strip them of their royal titles. This affected the children of his youngest son, Prince Joachim: Prince Nicholas, 23, Prince Felix, 20, Prince Henrik, 13, and Princess Athena, 10. They will become counts and countesses from 1 January 2023 and will have the titles “Your Highness”, not “Your Highness”. Also, they will have fewer royal duties in the future due to the new titles.

The Queen admitted that this decision was difficult for her, but added that she made such a decision “for the sake of the future of the monarchy”.

In his statement, he said that they would solve more problems in the family circle.

Previously, the queen’s representatives also argued that changes were made so that her royal duties were not too restrictive for her grandchildren and that they could determine their own lives. It was not specified how the deprivation of titles would affect the lives of members of the royal family, including whether they would lose special protection in connection with the new status.

Earlier, Prince Joachim publicly criticized the mother’s decision and said he was “punishing” her children. She added that her youngest daughter, Athena, started being bullied at school and said she was no longer a princess. Prince Joachim said the queen did not discuss the titles of her children with him, and only learned of the news five days before it was made public.

Interestingly, Prince Joachim and his wife Marie are referred to in the press as “Danish Prince Harry and Meghan Markle” for repeatedly expressing their dissatisfaction with their position at the court. There were also rumors that they wanted to give up their royal duties.

It is also rumored that Prince Joachim’s wife, Princess Marie, has a strained relationship with his older brother’s wife, Crown Princess Mary. Crown Prince Frederik was in France at the time of the announcement that his brother’s children had been deprived of their titles.

Queen Margrethe has two sons, Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim, and eight grandchildren. Crown Prince Frederik’s four children – Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josefina – will retain their titles.
