Fashion editor’s diary: Ushatava’s poignant ad campaign and Chervonsky’s Brother collection

Hello all fashionistas! Your fashion editor is in touch. There are so many trends and brands in my world that I decided to keep an online diary where I take notes on the most important things in the fashion world. And although such diaries are often called personal, mine are open to all readers – so you know how to be the most stylish in the city.

This week has been rich in fashion news – spring-summer shows in New York, Anne Hathaway and Miranda Priestly on the Michael Kors show, as well as an Emmy Award and a few new looks from Bella Hadid and Julia Fox.

If you visit our site often, you will know all this for sure. But have you heard of the collection of the Russian brand dedicated to the movie “Brother”? Have you checked out the touching Ushatava campaign? If not, I’ll gladly tell you. Shall we begin?


I increasingly think that Alexei Balabanov’s cult films “Brother” and “Brother 2” are an inexhaustible source of inspiration not only for our editors (I’m afraid to count how much we have done on this), but also for designers. References to the images of the main characters are increasingly found in the collections of Russian brands. For example, a very nice collaboration with the STV film company dedicated to Marilyn (Dasha) of the local brand Chervonsky was noticed this week. The capsule consists of knitted hats in the shape and color of Marilyn’s wigs, a synthetic winter scarf, a bomber jacket with a green hair print, a wool coat and an eco-leather coat. The latter immediately goes to my wish list. How else would I constantly review the films “Brother” and “Brother-2” once a year.


How are you with your dreams? How many of these have you already implemented and how many have you postponed? Just the other day I read a joint research on the Marc O’Polo brand and the All-Russian Center for Public Opinion. So, according to him, 64% of the respondents put off fulfilling their dreams, which may make them happier. Sounds scary, right? But what’s worse is that the greatest number of unfulfilled desires are among people who don’t trust them. The “I Can Be” initiative was created, which includes psychologists, experts, and ideological inspirers to help people learn to listen to themselves and fulfill their desires. A very nice and interesting project.


On September 1, the entire Russian fashion community heatedly discussed the demonstration of the new Ushatava collection for the content director of the brand Dacha Zukhbay, who passed away last year. Needless to say, how many tears were on the show and how much applause did it get after? And a few days ago, the brand presented a very touching advertising campaign, shot in Abkhazia, in the village of Okumi, where Dachi spent his childhood. According to the team, they did not have a pre-written plot, everyone just knew where and who to shoot. Friends and colleagues of the dacha, as well as local residents became models. This is also the case when it touches the essence of the campaign.


I still remember the first time I went to the Trend Island store in Aviapark. Then it opened and I knew almost nothing about Russian brands. Therefore, we can assume that the introduction to the domestic market begins with a small area on the third floor of the shopping center and 30 brands represented in it. And today I realized it was six years ago and was surprised to say the least. During this time, the store has grown well – the space has tripled, but the number of cool brands has quadrupled (currently there are 128 brands in the store). Meanwhile, on the occasion of his birthday, Trend Island will host contests and prize draws, as well as a festival program and discounts from local designers. Therefore, if you are a shopaholic, we recommend that you look there as soon as possible.

And it’s even better that you can get such a beauty without spending your entire salary. A fashion editor’s job requires you to keep track of all the new collections, sales and promotions and then share them with you. So I will do this now. For some unknown reason, most of us are willing to spend a fortune on sweaters, hoodies, dresses and jeans, but prefer to save on home wear and pajamas. And in vain!
