Poland presents Cannes jury prize winner “EO” at the international Oscar race

Poland chose Jerzy Skolimowski to win the Cannes title EO as his official introduction to this year’s international Oscar run.

EO signs Moonlight Helmer Skolimowski’s first project in seven years and follows the journey of a nomadic gray donkey named EO. After leaving the traveling circus, which is the only life he has ever known, EO begins walking through the countryside of Poland and Italy, experiencing cruelty and kindness in equal measure, observing the follies and triumphs of humanity.

Along the way, he is aided and abetted by a cast of characters that includes a young Italian priest (Lorenzo Zurzolo), a countess (Isabelle Huppert), and a Polish soccer team. Skolimovsky puts the viewer in the perspective of his four-legged hero, tells the world around us, the social evils and serves as a warning about the dangers of neglect and inaction in the pursuit of freedom.

The film impressed Robert Bresson Ah Hassar Baltasar. Skolimowski and Eva Piaskowska wrote and created the title. Michal Dimek is the director of photography and the project is written by Pavel Mikietin. HanWay Films is handling world sales of the title and Jeremy Thomas is executive producer.
