Russian Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova said on the telegraph channel that the exhibits in the collections of the Hermitage and Tretyakov Gallery, which were previously detained at Finnish customs, will soon be returned to Russia.

Lyubimova explained that the European Commission has declared that exhibits previously participating in European exhibitions are not included in the sanctions list, which means that there is no reason for detention.

The exhibitions in question were part of two exhibitions held in Milan and Udine in Italy. Both ended at the end of March. In addition to works from the collections of the Hermitage and Tretyakov Gallery, the exhibition included works from the museum reserves of Tsarskoye Selo, Pavlovsk and Gatchina, as well as from the Eastern State Museum. Among those detained at Finnish customs were several exhibits from the collection of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, presented at an exhibition at the Chiba City Museum in Japan.

The fate of the unique collection of the Morozov brothers, which was presented at an exhibition in Paris and has not yet been returned to Russia, is unknown – the French side refers to logistical problems due to sanctions. We are talking about about 200 paintings, including masterpieces by Picasso, Serov, Matisse, Van Gogh and other famous artists. Recently it became known that after the second round of the presidential elections in France, all decisions regarding the return will be made.
