Gabriel told Deadline about the plot of his movie: “After an unexplained incident, two brothers have to get custody of their nieces and nephews.” “Your nephew is like a weird bookworm. The director shot the movie close to home. Very close.
“I did this in my backyard, literally in my backyard,” Gabriel said. “Hello to Mrs. Lewis. My neighbor let us see her front yard. We were just great. I locked everyone in our garden and I made a movie and tried to tell a good story. I tried to tell a shocking story.”

According to him, the path to winning the Grand Prix at HollyShorts was not easy. Among other things, his car broke down last week.

Other major awards for HollyShorts include director (queen of basketballHis Oscar award in March was followed by a win for his latest short documentary. Mink! The film tells the story of Hawaiian Democrat Patsy Takemoto Mink, the first woman of color to be elected to the United States House of Representatives. While in Congress, Mink co-wrote the Title IX law outlawing gender-based discrimination in federally funded schools. Title IX became law in 1972.
Proudfoot named the HollyShorts award “very important because this is Title IX’s 50th anniversary and when did I do it. queen of basketballThat’s how I learned of Patsy Mink, the driving force behind the legislation that created the world. [The Queen of Basketball subject] Lucy Harris for playing basketball and many other sports. Our movie… follows the story of Patsy and where she came from, what she’s faced, the obstacles she’s overcome, and ultimately the law she wrote and defended, Title IX. This is very important and I think is another example of how Patsy’s legacy lives on. “
Proudfoot will shoot his movie overseas in the coming months and is expected to return to DC.
“We’re going to Japan for a screening at the US Embassy in October, it’s really exciting,” he said. We look forward to having more exhibits at The Hill in Washington and bringing people together to celebrate Patsy and what she stands for, as well as to celebrate the story of someone who showed us that change is possible.”
“We live in a time when you thought it was impossible, it’s like we’re going backwards. And Patsy’s life is a testament, and her story is a testament, and our movie tells the story of a particular moment in which she continues. And many of the rights we celebrate today are thanks to people like Patsy who are really pushing progress forward. And that’s the responsibility we have to continue the Patsy tradition.”
