Exclusive: Ringside Studios, an outsourcer owned by European media company and distributor Newen, concluded its latest acquisition by acquiring a minority stake in UK firm Joi Productions through its investment partner Ringside Media.
Created by former BAFTA nominee Joey Garroro-Akpojoto, the company has credits including Rapman’s debut hit. blue storyWhich was released by Paramount and Aml Ameen’s Saint Stephen, Which was released by Warner Bros.
In 2020, Gharoro-Akpojoto received the BFI Vision Award to support growth, and the company has now hired Tom Hawkins, the former head of development at Wildgaze. Newan formed Ringside Studios with Gub Neil in 2020 to increase their penetration of the English-speaking market. To date, the company’s investment group has confirmed shares in Fictionhouse, Slate Entertainment, Further South Productions and B Side Film and TV.
