Sony Pictures Classics co-chairs Michael Barker and Tom Bernard will receive the Zurich Film Festival’s Game Changer Award in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the film industry.
The award coincides with the 30th anniversary of Sony Pictures Classics, which since its inception in 1992 has played a role in independent arthouse cinema both nationally and internationally.
“Sony Pictures Classics is synonymous with intelligent arthouse cinema among film lovers,” explains Christian Jungen, Art Director of ZFF.
“Michael and Tom have been producing and delivering sophisticated entertainment for the past 30 years,” he said.
“They introduced great European authors such as Almodóvar, Wenders and Maren Ade to the American public and gave the world one of the best American independent films. Others have come and gone: they have remained successful and have devoted themselves to cinema for 30 years. We want to honor this result with our award ”.
Jungen also highlighted the role the company played in advocating for diversity in films long before it was part of the mainstream conversation.
“Sony Pictures Classics has also given a big boost to diversity in the film industry, leading titles like Gay Love Story. call me by your name or trans-argument A fantastic woman To be successful, long before diversity was the dictate of the times, ”he said.
The couple will receive the award at the festival’s industry-focused Zurich Summit dinner on 25 September.

Barker and Bernard earned 184 Oscar nominations (158 at the SPC) and won 41 Academy Awards (37 at the SPC), mostly Call me by your name, father, whiplash, midnight in Paris, Howards End Y Bowed Tiger Hidden Dragon.
The 18th edition of the Zurich Film Festival will run from 22 September to 2 October.
