A congressional committee holding hearings on the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol has released never-before-seen raw footage of then-President Donald Trump’s video announcement to the nation and his supporters.
The first arrived on the afternoon of January 6th.
While the entire country sees the final product, the raw video released today shows a very intense Trump initially distracted by someone repeating the speech in the frame behind him. As Trump speaks, he deviates from a carefully written text to suppress vandals entering the building where Congress is inspecting the election.
In fact, according to the House committee, Trump’s speech bore little resemblance to the final text he approved. He is issuing condolences to his supporters and calling for peace rather than openly condemning violence because “we cannot play with these people”.
Among his advertisements was a repetition of the lie that the election was stolen at the beginning of his speech: “We had a choice stolen from us.” Trump reiterated the claim at the end of the short video, another significant departure from the text he had already endorsed.
When asked if Trump had used any of the written notes, former presidential adviser Nicholas Luna told the committee: “As far as I know, it wasn’t a bracelet.”

According to the documents obtained by the panel on January 6, the final text of the statement Trump is expected to give that evening is as follows:
I encourage all my followers to do exactly what 99% of them do: peacefully express their passions and ideas.
My supporters have a right to have their voices heard, but make no mistake: no one should have to use violence or the threat of violence to express themselves. Especially in the United States Capitol. Respect our institutions. Let’s all do better.
Now I ask you to leave the Capitol Zone and go home in peace.
The next day, Trump posted another video with raw footage showing him repeatedly changing the text aimed at easing tensions in the country.
“You do not represent our movement. You do not represent the country. You will pay. And if you break the law…” Trump pauses, nods, and says, “I can’t say that. I… I already told you, you’ll pay. “
He then reads from the teleprompter: “This election is over. Congress approved the results. Trump pauses once again and says, “I don’t want to say the election is over.” I will say, “Congress has approved the results,” without saying, “The election is over.” “
