Caitlin Jenner, a transgender athlete, reality TV star, and former California gubernatorial candidate, has joined Fox News Media as a contributor.

“I am honored by this unique opportunity to speak directly to the millions of Fox News Media viewers about a variety of issues that matter to the American public,” Jenner said in a statement.
Jenner participated in the California Challenge last year, but received only 1% of the vote.
The hiring comes after some people in the network sued The Walt Disney Company over Florida law that prohibits discussion of sexual orientation or gender identity in the classroom from kindergarten to third grade. The bill, which its opponents refer to as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, was signed by Florida Governor Ron Desantis this week. Lee Power, director of media intelligence at Media Matters for America, a progressive watchdog, said Fox News has mentioned Disney more than 250 times since Wednesday morning.
Most of the comments, including Tucker Carlson and Kyle McKennan, are that Disney is trying to teach kids a progressive LGBTQ or “awakened” agenda.
But LGBTQ activists view the law as part of a long history of community segregation, often in the sense that it poses a threat to political gain and often to children. The Briggs Initiative in California tried to ban gays and lesbians from teaching in public schools in 1978, but lost the election. Harvey Milk was one of those who led his defeat, while opposition included then-President Jimmy Carter and future President Ronald Reagan.
Fox News’ parent company, Fox Corp., was among the companies rated by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation as “best places to work for LGBTQ equality” in 2022. An HRC spokesperson declined to comment on Jenner’s hiring or Fox News episodes, but said the companies are evaluated annually. Netflix missed this year’s Corporate Equality Index due to the release of Dave Chapelle’s special The Closer, which sparked backlash for its jokes and comments about the transgender community.
