Deadline is a scene from the Hollywood scene that you think deserves more attention, but didn’t it happen for some reason?
Gina shock: There were a lot of good bands at the time, but one that really caught my attention was Weirdos. I felt they had never received the recognition they deserved. His songs were very engaging and had great melodic vocal hooks and equally memorable guitar hooks. The text was smart and timely and everyone in the group was very good. I wonder why they have never been so successful. But timing is everything, and who knows how and when it happens.
Katie Valentino: Good question! There were so many good bands, in many genres, that they took notice. But I agree with Gina that quirks go a little under the radar. They were favorites. Plimsouls should have been bigger and X should have been a surname.
Deadline: Do the people who come to see you now come for the same reasons as the fans from the start?
SG: I’m not from a fan point of view, so I don’t know if I’m fully qualified to answer. But I thought it was because of the songs and feelings they evoked when we were younger and still many years later.
KV: I don’t think they come for the same reason, but they probably like it for the same reason. People know who we are, now they know our songs. In the beginning, go-gos were part of the scene. Both the musicians and the fans were very supportive of this scene. We all introduced ourselves to each other and kept it alive.
EXPIRATION: What does the concert performer have now that you didn’t expect, when?
KV: Kombucha. I thought it sounded disgusting when.
SG: In fact, it’s more like something that’s not in the rider these days. No more spirits, just a bottle or two of wine. No meat, especially vegetables. We are no longer spring chickens, so we really pay attention to what we put into our bodies.
EXPIRATION: What is the difference between being in a group and having a relationship with the dancers?
SG: First of all, we are a rock band. We do not use dancers to reach our audience. We work quite well without pyrotechnics and without sophisticated stage productions. We are just a band that reaches our audience through our music. There is no distraction. When we play, you see the five of us on stage and our hearts swell.
KV: These 2 themes are completely different, one is a team of trained people choreographing to the music. The second is a group of trained people who play music on instruments, most likely music created by themselves.
EXPIRATION: Can you imagine the Rolling Stones retiring and touring in the late 1970s?
SG: I’d be happy to think we played in the 70’s. If rocks can do it, we can too. We still look great and sound great. Our shows are full of energy and it is contagious. But I’m only one in five votes and that’s when the time comes. Personally, I want to be on stage and play when I have my last breath.
KV: No, the Stones tour with private jets and police escort, staff and countless employees, and works from a catalog of 30 albums. Go-Go is a lot of fun with some wonderful songs that people like, but there is a very limited amount of material to choose from and even if we don’t represent it, it’s quite exhausting and difficult for us. I think you think a good vacation is camping when you are young, but then you get older and prefer to have a nice hotel on the beach.
The term Someone once said that writing music is like dancing with architecture. It goes both ways, okay?
KV: I write about music and it’s difficult. My hat is for people who do it for a living. But I disagree with this statement. Good writing can take the reader everywhere.
SG: I totally agree with Keta, especially in the fact that good writing can take the reader somewhere, to another time and place.
EXPIRATION: You can add two people to a group, male or female. Who receives it?
SG: Joan Jetti because she is a great writer and a very bad guitarist and performer. She would complete the picture well. The other person would be Kate Pearson of B-52 because she could take our vocal sound to another level. The combination of her and Belinda was going to be strong. I respect and love them both. Can you imagine what it’s like to add Joan and Kate? oops!
KV: I invited the male energy into a group to sing, write and play. Like Johnny Marie and perhaps a great multi-instrumentalist, the unknown, any sex will be able to.
