Foley only later found out that his biological father, who was a Shanghai sailor, had been blacklisted for seeking equal treatment with British sailors and not prevented from returning to the UK.

The screenplay is written by up and coming Liverpool playwright and screenwriter Lizzie Nanner. Her work was shortlisted for the Blackburn Prize for Susan Smith and won Best New Play at the UK Theater Awards. Narvik In 2017.
