Damon Buffin, co-founder of global investment firm Permira, will chair the BBC Business Council. And suggestions for incoming discounts.
Buffin will take on a new role as producer/distributor of BBC Studios as well as overseeing other business activities including the operation of Studioworks.
He previously served as a non-executive director on the re-elected and re-elected board of directors, which currently consists of a majority of external non-executive representatives, including business, finance and digital.
The main aim of the council is to drive business growth and revenue, one of the four pillars of its approach since BBC CEO Tim Dave took office 18 months ago.
Buffin is the co-founder of global investment firm Permira and has a long history with the arts, including managing the Wellcome Trust.
He will take office on Friday, along with new non-executive directors Bhav Singh and Gunjan Bhou.
Buffin said: “BBC Studios has an impressive track record in the creative and creative commercial industries and the new board deals are an important step towards further developing this, both in the UK and globally.
The move came as the BBC suffered severely from a license fee freeze over the next two years before returning to rising inflation.
In announcing its annual plan today, the BBC has hinted that it will discuss in more detail how it plans to deal with this freeze in May and that a reduction may be coming. The company needs to save about 1.5 billion ($2 billion) over the next five years.
The annual plan also sets out a target that by 2027, 25% of staff will be from the lowest socioeconomic strata so that “our workforce is better representative of the audience we serve.”
