IMAX and Pathe Live team up to bring French band Indochine to theaters this fall

Exclusive: IMAX and Pathé Live have entered into a new partnership to bring French pop-rock band Indochine to Ajax screens this fall. On Saturday 25 June, the sold out Indochine – Central Tour concert at the Groupama stadium in Lyon, France, will be filmed with a certified IMAX 22 camera. This will be the first concert to be broadcast via the Filmed for IMAX photo show, when distribution begins in France and in select markets on 23 November. So it will only appear one night, not in IMAX theaters the next day. IMAX currently has 17 theaters in France.

Outside of France, the concert will take place in Belgium, Switzerland and other select markets, with more details to be announced in the coming weeks.

Indochine formed in Paris in 1981. They had success in Francophonie, Europe and Latin America in the 1980s with songs like “L’Aventurier” and “Canary Bay”. The band has sold over 13 million albums and singles, making it the best-selling French band of all time.

To celebrate Indochina’s 40th anniversary, the Central Tour has sold more than 400,000 tickets for its six stadiums. It opened at the Stade de France on May 21 in front of 97,036 spectators, a record attendance for all events held in the cult stadium (sporting events and concerts combined). The live show features a 147-foot-tall central tower and the largest purpose-built LED screen ever used in a live concert (27,000 sf / 1,400 LED panels).

The concert film is directed by Hans Panekuke, produced by KMS, Sony Music and JYL Productions and is distributed exclusively in theaters by Pathé Live.

“IMAX continues to be a global destination for all types of fans and Indochina is a prime example of how we create unique and engaging entertainment events on the international stage,” said Megan Coligan, president of IMAX Entertainment. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with the Indochinese on their sold out central tour and offer their loyal fans an unforgettable experience.

“Pathé Live is extremely excited and proud that this spectacular show by the most popular and famous French band will bring our exhibitionist partners and spectators. “This first gig for IMAX will offer fans the most immersive and unprecedented experience only in theaters,” said Thierry Fontaine, president of Pathé Live. “We are very grateful to be working with IMAX, JYL Productions, Sony Music and the band themselves on this ambitious and innovative cinematic event.”

Tickets for the preview of Indochine IMAX will go on sale on November 23rd on July 4th, while tickets for the first house (November 24th) will go on sale on July 7th.
