Neon obtained the rights to Dorothy Baker’s 1962 novel Cassandra at the wedding And put Sarah Delape on the screen.
The book follows Cassandra Edwards, a Berkeley graduate: cheerful, bright, nervous and unhappy. At the beginning of the novel, she returns to the family ranch in the foothills of the Sierra to attend the wedding of her identical twin, Judith, to a young Connecticut doctor. However, Cassandra wants to sabotage the marriage.
Delap wrote Bodies, bodies, bodies for A24, just premiered at SXSW. He also wrote the play. wolves, Which received the inaugural Relentless Award from the American Dramatist Foundation and was a finalist for the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for drama.
Neon will shoot an adaptation with Brad Becker-Parton and Greg Noble on behalf of Seaview, along with Early and Leslie Conliffe of the IP group.
The book deal was negotiated by Mason Speta at Neon and Conley on behalf of Macintosh and Otis, who are the principal agents of Dorothy Baker’s estate.
