Archaeologists have discovered ruins in Jordan, near the southeastern part of the Dead Sea, that may be associated with the legendary cities of Sodom and Gomorrah mentioned in the Bible. The artifacts found and traces of destruction show that these cities really existed and were destroyed by a catastrophic fire.

Researchers identify five ancient settlements in a line stretching from north to south along the hills. Among them are Bab ed-Dhra, which may be Sodom, and Numera, where Gomorrah is located, according to archaeologists. Both cities were inhabited in the Early Bronze Age and appear to have been destroyed by fire and never rebuilt.
Field archaeologist Dr. Titus Kennedy told the Digging for Truth podcast that the findings were “very strong in terms of identifying them with the Five Cities of the Plain.” He said that during excavations at Bab al-Dhra, researchers found charred tombs where the fire likely started from the roof and then spread downwards, as if the fire had actually descended from the sky.
Archaeologists discovered human remains beneath a collapsed tower at Numera; This situation indicated a sudden disaster. Similar traces of destruction were found in other nearby areas, where, according to legend, the cities of Adma and Zeboim were destroyed along with Sodom and Gomorrah.
Scientists paid special attention to the city of Zohar, located next to modern Safi. Unlike others, it has survived for centuries and is mentioned as the shelter of just Lot in the Old Testament. Here archaeologists found the ruins of two Byzantine churches, tombstones and a cave associated with Lot.
Meanwhile, earlier archaeologists reported a sensational discovery – the ruins of an ancient sunken port were discovered in Egypt, which may be the key to the search for the tomb of Queen Cleopatra.
