With tattoos, he can judge a person’s character. Many people think of red flags and the past with drawings for years and body. But scientists are preparing to refute this legend.

Psychologists from the University of Michigan rejected a widespread view of the direct connection between tattoos and character traits. This is stated in an article published in the Personality Research Magazine.
In a large -scale study, 274 people with tattoos participated. The participants filled detailed personal tests and provided photos of their tattoos for an independent assessment. The results revealed significant inconsistency between perception and reality.
Professor William Chopik, who chaired the study, said, “There was an incredible uniformity in the evaluations. Bright tattoos friendship, great classic drawings – sociality and neurotic dark images were associated with dark images. But these estimates were rarely confirmed,” he said.
The exception was “openness of the new experience”. Non -standard tattoos agreed with the greater clarity of its owners. This is consistent with previous studies showing the relationship between creative self -expression with this feature.
It is wondered that even the explanations of the meaning of the tattoo do not increase the accuracy of the evaluations. The study emphasizes the paradox: people actively use visual signs to judge the individual, but these signs are usually wrong. In some cases, even the inverse addiction was observed – made a systematic mistake in the results of the evaluators.
Although the authors are more tolerant of the physical art of modern society, they say that subconscious prejudices are still preserved.
