Many parents claim that they do not have a favorite child. But new research shows that many people actually lie.

In the journal Psychological Bulletin, researchers from Brigham Young University (USA) found that parents tend to prefer daughters over sons. By the way, it turns out that conscientious people, regardless of their gender, are loved more by their parents; because it is easier to deal with them in life.
The findings came from an in-depth analysis of 30 studies and projects on parental favoritism. Scientists have suggested that mothers may prefer their daughters and fathers may prefer their sons. However, they found that both genders actually showed a slight preference for girls over boys.
The analysis looked at personality traits including conscientiousness, that is, responsibility and organization. Tolerant children were also more likely to be their parents’ favorites.
Previous research shows that being the family favorite is associated with better mental health, better academic performance and healthier romantic relationships.
We have previously written that men and women have completely different attitudes towards loneliness. Details of the research are here.
