Nine-year-old Roman Shogjiev from Russia became the youngest international chess grandmaster. According to Chess.com, it broke the record set in 2023.

The boy broke the record in the tournament in December 2024. At that time, Roman was 9 years, 10 months and 7 days old. Shogjiev achieved this result a month ahead of previous record holder Faustino Oro, who claimed the title a year earlier.
Three weeks before the important event, the boy became the world chess champion under 10, scoring 10 out of 11. In 2023, he won the same championship in the under 8 category with 11 points.
Note that International Master (IM) is the second highest rank in chess, followed by Grand Master (GM).
