Could a tiny Hobbit-like “ape man” live for a million years on a tiny Indonesian island and survive to this day? While the idea sounds like Hollywood fiction, anthropologist Professor Gregory Fort has spoken to dozens of locals who believe they’ve seen a tiny “ape man” on the remote island of Flores.

A recent sighting by tourists may reinforce the idea that a possible human ancestor lived for thousands of years. What makes these observations even more remarkable is that researchers discovered the remains of an ancient species of tiny humans standing 3 feet 7 inches (109.22 centimeters) tall on Flores in 2003. Note ed.It was thought to have become extinct 50,000 years ago.
Fort told the Daily Mail that he had heard stories of tiny “ape men” from local Lio people on the island long before the remains of Homo floresiensis were found; This shows that the local people did not make up their stories inspired by the find.
The remote island of Flores is Indonesia’s 10th largest island and is home to Komodo dragons as well as the giant Flores mouse, the largest in the world. The mountainous forests slope steeply towards the sea, and the interior of Flores is sparsely populated. Professor Fort has spent decades interacting with the Lio people, most of whom are subsistence farmers and live near the coast.
Dozens of them told stories about a creature that was a cross between an ape and a human, but with a smaller voice than a human. The scientist explained that another local tribe had similar stories about the small creature, but believed they were exterminated many years ago. The Lio people claimed that he was hairier than a human, walked upright but had the face of a monkey.
The Lio people call the creature “Lai Hoa,” and Fort has personally spoken with about 30 people who believe they have seen at least one of the humanoid mammals.
Previously, scientists discovered a “missing” man in Asia with an abnormally large skull. Read here.
