A large-scale study was conducted by scientists from Tulane University (USA). For the first time, they discovered whether the timing of coffee drinking affects body processes.
The results were published by the European Heart Journal. They showed that a refreshing drink in the morning extended life and reduced the risk of death from heart disease by 31%. “It’s not just whether you drink coffee or how many cups you drink, but also when you do it,” said Professor Lu Qi.
It turned out that people who drank coffee before 12:00 were less likely to have a heart attack and cancer than those who did not drink coffee at all or drank it during the day. Experts examined data on nutrition and health of 40,725 people aged 18 and over from 1999 to 2018. Scientists also suggest that the problem may be disruption of circadian rhythms and melatonin levels when drinking coffee in the evening.
