Adrien Brody has revealed that he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder after filming Roman Polanski’s biographical drama The Pianist.
“It was a physical transformation that was necessary to recreate this story. “I discovered emptiness and hunger to a degree I had never experienced before,” the actor shared in an interview with New York Magazine.
Adrien Brody played the role of Vladislav Szpilman, a survivor of the terrible events of the Holocaust, in the movie The Pianist. The actor went on a strict diet to prepare for the role, and as a result, he lost 13 kilograms, increasing his weight to 58 kilograms. Brody noted: “I definitely had an eating disorder for at least a year. Then I had depression that lasted a year, if not my entire life. Just kidding, just kidding.” When asked if he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder caused by this role, he replied: “Yes, I do.”
Recall that Adrien Brody won the Oscar for Best Actor in “The Pianist” (2003). The award was given when he was 29 years old, making the actor the youngest actor to win in this category in the award’s history. The actor, who was so excited at the award ceremony, first kissed Halle Berry and then said: “Every time I gave a speech for such events, I lost.”
