Scientific Director of the Hydrometeorology Center Roman Vilfand said that climate warming in Russia is occurring faster than the world average. His words were reported by TASS.
He explained that global warming has its own spatial and temporal characteristics. For example, in the temperate latitudes of Eurasia, where most of our country is located, the annual average temperature is increasing 2.5 times faster than in the rest of the world. In northern latitudes, the process is 3.5 times faster.
The head of the Hydrometeorology Center noted that 2024 could be the hottest year in history. According to him, the main cause of warming is greenhouse gases that block the transfer of long-wave radiation from the Earth’s surface.
Recent analysis of satellite images has shown that the area of vegetation in Antarctica has increased more than tenfold in just a few decades. Greenery could be a springboard for alien species to invade Antarctica’s pristine ecosystem, scientists have warned.
Let us remind you that a new maximum temperature of minus 34.2 degrees was recorded in Antarctica in August.
