It seems unlikely that director Ridley Scott will invite Joaquin Phoenix to his movies. He still remembers the incident on the set of the first episode of Gladiator.
The director told Entertainment Weekly that one day, Joaquin Phoenix, who played Marcus Aurelius Commodus, froze up during filming and refused to work. He then had to be persuaded to star in the film.
“He was dressed as the Joaquin character and said, ‘I can’t do that,’” Scott recalls. – “I said: “What?” “This is extremely unprofessional,” Scott recalls Russell saying.
Ridley Scott added that he was able to convince Phoenix to stay in the film because he could take on the role of an older brother or father. Additionally, Scott became friends with Phoenix and later featured him in his films.
Meanwhile, Russell Crowe directed Gladiator as Maximus. Both he and Joaquin Phoenix received Oscar nominations. As a result, Crowe received the Best Actor award.
