Russians have spent record amounts of money on sneakers for at least the last three years. Vedomosti reported that they paid 44.8 billion rubles for these shoes in the first seven months of this year, citing data from a report by the Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies.
In the same period in 2023, 32 billion rubles were spent on sneakers, and in 2022 and 2021, 18.4 billion and 17 billion rubles, respectively. The average price of a pair of sneakers from January to July this year was 3,699 rubles. This is 590 rubles more expensive than a year ago.
Infoline Analytics General Manager Mikhail Burmistrov noted that thanks to marketplaces, everything has become more accessible for Russians in remote parts of the country where there are no sports stores. The expert believes that goods are generally cheaper there, which further increases demand.
A Wildberries representative said that in January – July of this year, sneaker sales increased by 85% in quantitative terms and 80% in monetary terms compared to the same period in 2023.
