In an industry where form sometimes prevails over substance, Kristen Stewart launches an uncompromising outburst against the hypocrisy that plagues Hollywood. Away from the spotlight and red carpets, the 34-year-old actress and director has been advocating for a profound change in representation in the film industry.
“We’re producing Maggie Gyllenhaal’s movie!” We’re producing Margot Robbie’s movie! »
In a recent interview with the magazine BringStewart highlighted the phenomenon of “box ticking”which could be translated as “checked box”. This expression refers to the act of giving an illusion of progressWhile power relations remain unchanged. Kristen Stewart has so lifted the veil on all these illusions created by Hollywood, that she thinks it’s possible “check these little boxes to get rid of the patriarchy”.
Rather than paving the way for a handful of privileged women to gain opportunities at major studios, Stewart demands a true diversity and inclusion policy :
“It’s easy for them to say, ‘Look what we’re doing. We’re producing Maggie Gyllenhaal’s movie! We’re producing Margot Robbie’s movie!’ And you say, “Okay, fine.” You chose four.” »

Kristen Stewart’s first feature film
Determined to make her voice heard by tackling issues of inclusion head-on, Stewart turned her attention to directing his first feature filmtitled The chronology of water. So far Stewart has only gone behind the camera to direct music videos and short films.
But for her, this new film isn’t about career, it’s a statement of principles. “I will make this movie before I work for anyone else” she said. “I will leave this damn industry if I have to. I won’t make another damn movie until I make this one. » His efforts have not gone unnoticed, attracting attention at Sundance where he is actively seeking funding for his project.
Adapted from the memoirs of American writer Lidia Yuknavitch, the film will delve into issues that are still too little addressed in cinema. “My film is about incest, about menstruation, about a woman who violently reclaims her voice and her body. It’s hard to watch sometimes… but it’s going to be a rollercoaster of emotions.” announced Kristen Stewart.
