Researchers found that moderate physical activity, such as gardening or walking, was associated with a lower risk of depression.

Low to moderate exercise was found to reduce the risk of this mental disorder by 23%, anxiety by 26%, and psychosis and schizophrenia by 27%. But high-intensity exercise can sometimes worsen stress-related reactions.
The results of the research were published in the journal Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews. The study’s authors examined data from more than 4 million people. Their results were consistent across people of different ages and genders around the world, according to the scientists.
According to scientists, “moderate exercise may improve mental health through biochemical reactions, while high-intensity exercise may worsen stress-related reactions in some people.”
