After a lightweight boxing championship in downtown Brooklyn on Saturday night, rumors of an active pitcher sparked panic among the fans involved.
Gervonta Davis defeated Rolando Romero by knockout in the main event. But as fans left the arena, loud noises mixed with gunfire have sent fans into panic, with recent mass shootings in New York and Texas.
Rumors of an active assailant at the scene reportedly caused panic and prompted protesters to take shelter in the arena.
According to the information obtained, 10 people were injured in the clash. New York police said in a statement that the injured were taken to New York district hospitals in stable condition.
Tennis star Naomi Osaka was at the scene and said on Twitter that she “heard screams and saw people running”, after which she said, “She’s an active shooter and we should hug the room and shut the doors.” She claimed she was “scared”.
Madonna was also reportedly present at the scene, but was not told whether she was involved in the shooting.
