Fashion alert: These 3 cult brands from our childhood are experiencing an unexpected comeback

Nostalgists take note. These fashion brands from our childhood, which we thought had fallen into disuse, have taken advantage of our inattention to renew their look. Returns that we didn’t necessarily see coming, but that we embrace with joy.

Whoever says April, says spring cleaning and massive wardrobe sorting. The chance, perhaps, to find that old bomber jacket that you had so much before it fell into disuse. Forgotten treasures, voluntarily abandoned, and which could nevertheless delight your senses, even immersing you in a delicious nostalgia.

In any case, this is what happened to me, not during a major tidying up, but during a wandering around in the throes of Vinted. What was my surprise when I discovered by chance, rummaging through a vintage wardrobe, the exact model of the shoes I wore as a child, this time in my adult size. Obviously I needed it.

Neither one nor two, I placed an order. For the sake of memory rather than for aesthetic sense, I will grant it to you (they are frankly unwearable after the age of 12, but I don’t care, I love them). And so I asked myself: what happened to this brand that I loved so much and that I’m happy to put back on my feet, 20 years later? What are your collections like today? Spoiler: I wasn’t disappointed.

If some brands from our childhood have declared bankruptcy or are in receivership (the late Sergent Major), others have undergone a real restyling. Proof with these three brands dear to our childhood which have been given a new look, for our greatest happiness.

Camping, the most fashionable

You might have guessed it: here’s the brand I was telling you about. These dear campers accompanied me to the playground when I was 6 to 10 years old. Today, the brand offers ultra-modern (sometimes even futuristic) models of sneakers, baby shoes, moccasins, ankle boots, sandals… Despite its Spanish roots, the brand seems to have come straight out of the trendy and unusual neighborhood of Camden in London. True to its roots, Camper puts the spotlight on colors, for our greatest happiness.

Kickers, the most intellectual

Yes, I love shoes. Here’s another well-known 80s/90s kids’ staple brand: Kickers. Despite the English name, Kickers originated in France. It’s a bit like our national Dr. Martens. In my time they looked a bit like clown shoes (I have nothing against circus arts, eh, I even made some when I was young). Today we love their dandy side, popular among literature students and other hipsters. Long live its sometimes intellectual, sometimes rock side, which shows all the richness of French know-how.

Desigual, the most pop

Well, for this brand, I may not tell you much. Desigual, once the favorite uniform of Spanish teachers (or so the legend goes), has become so trendy that we want to buy all of its collections. Its collaborations with leading names in fashion and design (like Miranda Makaroff, to name a few) have allowed the brand to move away from its old-fashioned reputation and win over a younger clientele, provided they can afford these colorful designs .
