Paul Mescal, if you want some, here it is. At 27 years old the Irish actor, protagonist of the series Normal people or even movies Without ever knowing each other AND After sun will embark on a rare project with director Richard Linklater.
A musical
Linklater isn’t his first attempt at cinematic challenges. The director is particularly known for titles Childhood, whose filming lasted an entire decade or even for the trilogy Before with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy.
Published between 1995 and 2013, the saga follows the love story of its characters for over eighteen years. Linklater involves Paul Mescal in what he promises to be his most ambitious project yet.
Filming is expected to last no less than twenty years this time, and this, for A musical. The film will in fact be adapted from the American musical We cheerfully proceed by Stephen Sondheim and George Furth, where Mescal will play the character of Franklin Shepard.
In an interview for Rowing published on January 26, Mescal shared his enthusiasm for the project, expressing the singularity and complexity of this colossal undertaking:
» I love musicals. I sing myself. We would shoot the film sporadically for the next 20 years… it sounds so strange even coming from my own mouth. »
If we are not close to immediately seeing the result of this crazy gamble, we already have an idea of the emotional power of the project. We already have tears in our eyes imagining Paul Mescal evolving and aging for over twenty years, the time of a film.
