The names of Polina Favorskaya and Natasha Bai are familiar to every avid party-goer in the capital – these girls play the most provocative sets at parties and recently worked as a duet in the LAVBLAST project, which was launched this year. Trying not to limit themselves to a single genre, they experiment with everything from trance and techno to naive pop music and folklore, recording rap for fun along the way. The result of LAVBLAST’s initial creative impulse was his debut album “Sky”, consisting of nine songs, including dancefloor hits, romantic songs and even dramatic intensity, and today a duet with 2000s legend Shark was released.
Almost on New Year’s Eve and the gala day, we talked to them about working with icons of the past, creativity and music in general.
Recently, in October, your lavblast electronics project was launched; Can you tell us about this?
Our lives crossed at the beginning of 2023 and we spontaneously decided to work on music together. In the beginning, there was no talk of a joint band, just trying to record something together, but these attempts were so successful that we realized that a new project was born. We are inspired by the rave and pop music of the nineties and zeros, which we grew up with techno and ambient, as well as folk songs that can be heard in some of our tracks.

How did you meet, how did the idea of the duet come about? Can you dispel the common belief that you can’t do business with your friends?
We met in January 2023 at a party organized by Polina at the Pole club, and Natasha performed there. It is difficult to answer about doing business with friends, because our friendship started on the basis of working together, and vice versa: we are not friends who decided to do business together, but partners who became friends.

The name of your first album is “Sky” – how did it come about, what does it mean?
We didn’t think for long and decided to name the album after the main hit, and that’s what happened. This track became the most popular and most listened to song of the album. The public loved him so much that we performed with him in the New Year’s “Zartvolye” directed by Sasha Gudkov. It will be broadcast on Stvol.TV as an alternative to “Blue Light” on New Year’s Eve.

What’s next for Lavblast? What are your creative plans? What do you see as the purpose and goals of music in general? What exactly does your work involve?
In the plans: a joint track with Oksana Pochepa (ex-Shark) will be released in the near future. We are preparing many new songs in 2024 and we plan to shoot a video for one of them. Music is a universal language that expresses our emotions rather than our thoughts. Therefore, the purpose of music is to unite and appeal to beauty, to liberate and enjoy life – we see all this in our concerts.

What conflicts arose between us at the stage of discussing and working on a joint project? How did you manage to compromise?
We don’t have creative conflicts. We feel the common projectile and move in this rhythm. And we only have disagreements with the sound engineers in the field (To laugh.).
You are both known as great DJs on the capital’s scene. What do you think is the art of DJing? What is the most difficult thing and what brings maximum excitement?
N: Ability to find interesting dance music and get everyone dancing. The hardest thing is to understand what you want: to please the public or to convey your musical vision to them?
P: Not being able to sleep at night when you’re not 20 anymore. The hardest thing for me is that it sets at 4 o’clock in the morning.

In your opinion, what makes a DJ successful and how can you make a name for yourself in this industry? However, this is not the same as a music career in the broader sense.
N: It’s a complex formula that cannot be universal. One thing a DJ must have is his own style, when he understands exactly what people will expect from you; charisma and openness, because parties are still about entertainment and the audience wants to engage with the DJ on an emotional level; Well, the quality of the music and technical skills.

How different is your public image from your real life self? Are they any different?
In the performances, Natasha is almost naked, but in life she wears a bag. And Polina is just an actress, she loves to be in roles in life.
What is the basis of your friendship? Why did you think about it and what did you decide one day?
We agreed to work together and set off.
How did the feature film featuring Shark, the legend of the 2000s, come about?
The day after our solo concert, Natasha writes to me and I wrote a piece. This happens after important events: you are in adrenaline, you experience an emotional high. This is the perfect situation for sublimation. When Natasha sent me the demo, the demo (music) reminded me so much of Akula’s material that I immediately thought how cool it would be to make her an offer. I told Natasha my idea, wrote to Oksana (Pochepa – Note ed.) is on a banned social network and said we should write to its director immediately. We sent them a demo and started working. The men accepted immediately, without any bargaining. They didn’t offer to change anything. And then an interesting story from ten years ago emerged. It turns out that in December 2013, his director Dima invited me to Akula’s solo concert and I said, “I hope one day we will have a crisis and perform on the same stage, this is my dream.” We even have a screenshot of this conversation! This is how dreams come true. And the song “I’m Letting You Go” itself is about breakup. It’s a great way to end the year when you need to let go of everything that isn’t allowing you to move forward! I hope you enjoy!
